Fixed plant gets forgotten precisely because it is fixed. An excavator gets walked round every morning. A press in the corner of a factory runs for years without anyone looking at its hoses.
Where the problems build up
The power unit. Reservoir, breather, filters and cooler. This is where most industrial hydraulic problems start, and it is the part nobody looks at because it is not the bit that makes the product.
Hoses inside guarding. Out of sight, so they get inspected roughly never, and they are often in the hottest part of the machine.
Anything that flexes. Clamping circuits, ejectors and moving tables. Same failure mode as mobile plant, just slower to arrive.
Leaks are not a cosmetic problem
A leaking press tends to get lived with, because it still makes parts. But an oil leak on a factory floor is a slip risk, a fire risk if there is anything hot nearby, and a sign the system is losing oil and pulling air in somewhere.
It is also, at that stage, a small job. It stays a small job for a while and then it is not.
Working around production

Common questions
Our press has developed a leak but still works. How urgent is it?
More urgent than it feels. A leak on a press is a slip hazard, a fire risk near anything hot, and it means the system is losing oil and drawing air. It also almost never gets better. That said, it is usually plannable rather than an emergency, which is exactly the point at which it is cheapest to fix.
Can you work around our production schedule?
Yes, and for fixed plant that is the sensible approach. Nights, weekends and planned shutdowns are all normal for this kind of work. Give us the window.
Do you work on hydraulic power units?
Yes. Power packs are often the neglected part of an installation because they sit in a corner and run. Reservoir condition, breather, filters and cooling are where most of the problems start.
The machine is old and the manufacturer has gone. Can it still be repaired?
Usually. Hydraulic components are far more standardised than machine builders imply, and hose assemblies get made to the machine rather than to a part number. Obsolescence is a bigger problem for control electronics than for hydraulics.
